The Australian Wine Research Institute, established in 1955, aims to advance the competitive edge of the Australian wine and grape industry through the delivery of world class research, development, extension and service activities.

The AWRI has four basic functions:


Research

The Research group aims to develop the scientific framework for methodical improvements in red and white winemaking through systematic and innovative improvements to viticultural and winemaking practices.

Industry Development and Support

Industry Development & Support provides winemaking, viticultural, environmental, health, nutritional and regulatory advice, plus a problem solving service. The group conducts research and develops advanced analytical technologies while educating through extension activities.


Analytical Service

The Analytical Service offers an extensive range of fee for service, NATA accredited, routine and advanced analytical testing including export certificates. The Analytical Service facilitates practical use of research in the industry.

Source of technical and regulatory information for Australian grapegrowers and winemakers to develop and maintain this industry’s technologically advanced status and sustainability.
